Released in April 2024, it is the result of a new Rusie-JV project between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki, who have previously linked up to create the likes of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Glanza.

Design and Exterior

Under the hood, the Taisor shares its platform with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, however, gets its own unique Toyota design elements.

Its front bumper features a hexagonal grille with honeycomb patterns and modern LED headlamps linked by a chrome strip.

The muscular bumper encases triangular fog lamp housings and when viewed from the side, it looks very much like its Maruti sibling except for a few changes to the alloys and the plastic cladding.

Its back is further accentuated with linked LED taillamps that add to its modern look.

Interior and Features

Inside, the Taisor keeps a lot of the Fronx’s cabin arrangement, Toyota branding styling touches and all. The dashboard houses a floating 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The gauge cluster is a mix of analog dials and 4.2-inch digital display that accurately convey all vital vehicle info.

Premium features include:

Wireless smartphone charger

Heads-up display

360-degree camera

Automatic climate control

Cruise control

Push-button start

Performance and Powertrain

The Taisor is available with 2 engine options that it borrows from its Maruti siblings:

It is powered by a 1.2 liter natural aspirated petrol engine that puts out around 90hp and 113Nm of torque.

an inline three-cylinder 1.0 turbocharged Boosterjet petrol that will produce about 100 hp and 148 Nm

For transmission, there’s 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT and 6-speed automatic options on offer, giving buyers a choice depending on what they prefer to drive.

Pros of the Toyota Taisor

Reliable: Toyota is known for reliable cars and the Taisor won’t be any different, so you can rest easy knowing you’ve got a dependable SUV.

Service Network: Toyota has one of the widest service networks in India, ensuring easy access to maintenance.

Premium Features: As an SUV, the Taisor offers premium features for it’s category.

Fuel Efficiency: Respectable mileage served from both options so far as the 1.2 liter finds 21 km/l.

Toyota Innova, Resale Value: Generally Toyota cars in India have done well in the resale market and Innova is no exception.

Cons of the Toyota Taisor

Less Diverse: One of the downers is that there are not many differentiators in the Taisor compared to Maruti but for the cosmetic changes.

Price Premium: The Toyota logo usually gets more money than the Maruti one for similar mechanicals though.

Interior Room: Other rivals in the class have a bit more legroom and more storage space.

No Diesel Variant: Buyers looking for more punch and a better fuel efficiency will be left disappointed by the lack of a diesel option.

Feature Missing: The Taisor misses out on some of the features which its rivals offer like the panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats.

Market Positioning

The Taisor gets into a highly competitive segment which already has the established players like Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Maruti Suzuki’s own Brezza.

Toyota says Innova Crysta offers the best of both worlds – the reliability typical of a legendary brand like Toyota with the comfort, features and spaciousness that an urban Indian seeks in an SUV.

The Taisor is for Toyota another of such strategic leveraging of products that are developed on another platform and are available for quick and cost effective adaptation to Toyota with space for the brand to grow in the fast developing compact SUV segment in India.
